
Information About Bowen Park Seniors
Membership is open to everyone 60 years and over (or whose spouse is 60 years and over) and costs $34 per calendar year (2007).
Over l500 Bowen Park Seniors enjoy a wide range of leisure programs and activities, bus trips, dances and special events. Most programs and services are offered at Bowen Park Recreation Complex, but seniors' programs also take place at Beban Park, Departure Bay Activity Center, Harewood
Activity Center and other city facilities and schools.
Activities take place year round Monday to Friday except on Statutory holidays.
Guest passes are available for out of town visitors 60
years or over. For $10 per month, the purchaser may participate in seniors'
programs and services, space permitting.
Membership entitles participation in a large variety of activities on a drop-in basis. Some seminars, instructional programs
and bus trips may require advance registration and an additional fee payment.
New Members' Teas and tours are held frequently.
Please phone us at 755-7501 to find out the date of the next one. If you are not able to attend, one of our volunteer hostesses would be
happy to give you a guided tour around the complex and answer any questions
you might have.
You may register in person anytime during office hours
at Bowen Park Monday to Friday from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm or by telephone
at 755-7501 through the Parks, Recreation and Culture office. Payment
is accepted by cash, cheque, debit, Visa or MasterCard.

The best way to keep on top of our many special events, van and bus trips and programs is to read the monthly Seniors' Newsletter

In addition, the Parks, Recreation and Culture Leisure
Guide is distributed to homes in the Nanaimo area with a section devoted
to seniors' programs. The Weekly Schedule indicates where and
at what time each activity takes place . You can pickup a Weekly Schedule at Bowen Complex.
Bowen Seniors'annual operational costs are subsidized through the City of Nanaimo's Parks, Recreation and Culture Services.
Membership fees contribute towards these costs.The Bowen Seniors
Board organizes fundraising initiatives to raise money for special projects.
Volunteers make Bowen Park Seniors possible! Just
a few of the activities volunteers are a part of include Thursday teas,
instructing group activities, teaching the youth knitting at Fairview Elementary
School, running Blood Pressure clinics, entertaining a Thursday Special
Event and much more.There are always new ways
to use the enthusiasm, talents and skills of our members. Can we find a spot for you?
Getting to the Bowen Park Complex 
Located at 500 Bowen Road, Bowen Complex has lots of convenient parking. A lift is available for those who have difficulty with stairs. Regular bus stops are just a short walk from the complex, and HandiDart (390-3000) provides transportation service for those who cannot use regular buses. Bus schedules are available in the office.
Van & Bus Trips
Monthly day trips are planned to points of interest on Vancouver Island, the Lower Mainland and the Gulf Islands.Bus trips
on a highway coach are available. Pre-registration is required for all trips. Suggestions for destinations are always welcome.
Special Events
A variety of social events take place throughout the
year.Musical entertainment happens each Thursday afternoon at the
Special Event with members enjoying an afternoon of musical entertainment, sweet treats, tea or coffee and good company.
Members celebrating a birthday are recognized at the
special event. Lunch barbecues are held during the summer and hot
lunches during the winter once a month. Other special events include
tea dances on some Sunday afternoons,woodcarvers host an annual show each Fall and our Christmas
Dinner Concert for our members happens every December.
